When you first start Maptitude, you will be presented with the Quick Start menu:

Select the required action, press OK and the main Maptitude application will start. These actions are as follows:

  • Map your own data: Import your own data from a spreadsheet or database
  • Open a map or workspace: Open an existing Maptitude map
  • Create a new map: Starts the Create-a-Map Wizard
  • Restore the previous session: Load the previous map with the previous display settings
  • Display the Initial Map: Display an overview map for the current data pack (e.g. a country-wide map for your country)
  • Open the Map Librarian: Open the Map Librarian so that you can select the required map data pack
  • None: Start Maptitude with no map. You will need to create or load one from the menus

Select Display the Initial Map and if your default data pack is for the US, Maptitude will appear with a US map:

You have created your first Maptitude map! Notice the Display Manager on the left. This lists all of the layers in the current map. Note that most are disabled. You can try enabling or disabling them by clicking on the red crosses and green check marks. Note that these layers contain data for the entire US, so enabling too many will result in very slow redraw times for the map. This is solved by setting some layers so that they only appear when you zoom in.

You can use the Create-a-Map Wizard to create more interesting maps with only a few extra clicks.
