Running the Shape Name Utility

Top  Previous  Next

The Shape Name Utility is installed by running the end user distribution (ShapeNameSetup.exe), or by building the Visual Basic 6 project provided in the source distribution. This will add a menu item to the MapPoint Tools menu called "Shape Name Utility...". The end user distribution will also add a folder to the Windows Start Menu that includes this document and an uninstall link.

To run the Shape Name Utility, select a shape in MapPoint. Then select Shape Name Utility... from the Tools menu. This will display a dialog box like this:

In this example, an ellipse shape has been selected in the map. If the shape has a name it will be displayed in the Name box. Here, the user has typed "market area" as the new name. Press OK to update the shape's name. Press Cancel if you wish to discard any changes.

Shape Name Utility can change the names of all shape types. It can also recognize pushpins, but pushpin names are read only. This is because pushpins that are imported using one of the data import wizards cannot be modified. This is not a significant limitation because users can modify a pushpin's name through the standard MapPoint interface.
