Microsoft Streets & Trips®
Microsoft Streets & Trips is targeted at the home and travel market, packing the road and routing abilities of MapPoint in an affordable package. Features include:
- GPS support: Orient yourself on the road with a GPS device running NMEA 2.0 or later.
- Support for mobile devices: Ability to import/export GPX (waypoints, GPS trail, etc) files for your handheld GPS device. Export using USB and MSN Direct also available.
- Automatic re-routing: Can automatically find a new, better route if you leave the current route.
- Up-to-date maps of the United States and Canada: More than 5.4 million miles of routable local, city, state, and highway roads in the United States and Canada (35,000+ U.S. and 700,000+ Canadian postal codes).
- Route Planner: With Route Planner, you can view, add, delete, and rearrange destinations. Route Planner also lets you set fuel costs, driving speed, and preferred routes.
- Find what's nearby: Includes over 1.8 million points of interest in 41 categories, including more than 550,000 restaurants, 90,700 gas stations, 117,000 ATM locations, 7,950 golf courses, and much more.
- Road construction updates: Be aware of local construction and road closures through updated information that's available on the Web for easy download.
- Personal Driving Profile: Customize your start times, driving speeds, rest stops, and preferred road types.
- Voice Prompted Directions: Verbal turn-by-turn directions for hands-free guidance.
The 2009 release includes the new 'MapPoint 2009' look with larger buttons that is more in-line with Office 2007 and Windows Vista styling. The GPS version also includes a new compact GPS device that uses the SiRFstart III chipset.
Microsoft Streets & Trips does not include a programming interface, so you will need the full desktop version of MapPoint if you wish to add your own functionality. The desktop edition of MapPoint also adds business data plotting capabilities, demographic data, and Microsoft Office integration. All of the tools and add-ins sold on this site, require MapPoint.
Microsoft Streets & Trips 2009 is also available with a GPS locator.
For European coverage, Streets & Trips is sold under the
AutoRoute
name. Note: Although AutoRoute has not been updated since 2007, Microsoft have not officially
discontinued the product.
