MapPoint can estimate the cost of driving a route. The route cost parameters are found on the More route options dialog box, which is displayed by pressing the More options button on the Route planner pane. Select the Costs tab on this dialog box, to display the main cost parameters:

The driving costs can be estimated in two ways. The simplest is to use a fixed rate. This is useful if you are calculating costs for reimbursement at a fixed rate. Select this option by setting the Calculate driving costs based on fixed rate radio button, then entering the rate in the edit box. This rate is specified using the current currency and distance units ($ per mile in the above image).
The second option, is to estimate the driving cost based on fuel consumption. Select this option by setting the Calculate driving costs based on fuel price (as displayed above). Then enter the fuel price. The fuel units can be specified in liters, UK gallons, or US gallons. These options only set the fuel price. Select the Fuel tab to set the actual fuel consumption parameters.
Fuel Consumption
In order to use the Calculate driving costs based on fuel price option, you will need to specify the fuel consumption parameters. These are set on the Fuel tab on the More route options dialog box:

Enter your vehicle’s fuel consumption figures for city and highway driving. The fuel consumption can be specified as miles per US gallon; miles per UK gallon; liters per 10 kilometers; or liters per 100 kilometers.
As a bonus, MapPoint can also annotate the route directions with low fuel tank warnings. Enable these warnings by setting the Include refuel warnings in driving directions check-box. Make sure you also specify your vehicle’s fuel tank size, the starting condition, and when to give the warning. Tank capacities can be specified in US gallons; UK gallons; or liters.
