Hiding and Displaying Pushpin Sets

MapPoint 2010 added a number of new pushpin set features. These include the ability to show or hide an entire pushpin set; and to open or close all pushpin information windows (‘balloons’).

This new functionality can be found on the pop-up menu that appears when you right click on the name of a selected pushpin set in the Legend:

A map with lots of data can become quite cluttered. A pushpin set can be hidden by selecting Hide pushpin set from this menu. A hidden pushpin set will be marked in the Legend with the text ‘(hidden)‘ after its name. The hide option will be replaced with a Show pushpin set option for hidden pushpin sets. Select this to re-display the pushpin set. Combined, these two options have the effect of implementing a simple form of layering.

All pushpins have information windows, known as ‘balloons’. Double-clicking on a pushpin will display the pushpin’s ‘balloon’.  All of a pushpin set’s ‘balloons’ can be opened or closed in one operation. To open all of these information window ‘balloons’, select Show all pushpin information from the above menu. Similarly, Hide all pushpin information closes all of the information window ‘balloons’.

Note: This functionality only works for user-generated pushpin sets or single symbol pushpin sets. You cannot hide multiple symbol datasets.

Could you tell me if such a function is available in Mappoint 2009?
We are working with multiple sets of data in one map but would only like to show a set at at time.
Also can you tell me how to show the information behind each pushpin with out having to click on each one individually.

    Many thanks.

  • Is there a way to reorder the layering of the pushpins once they’ve been mapped? I have about 10 sets of pins, but many overlap each other, but I want to see them all or at least maintain a level of importance.

Also, is there a way to have all the pushpins display their data bubbles/boxes all at once instead of having to double-click them all?

Keep in mind I’m using MP 2009. Many thanks.

    Hi just installed MapPoint 2011

My Legend and overview pane doesn’t look like that at all, just shows ‘Report Category by Postcode (which is correct for dataset) I don’t have right-click push-pin option like hide and show – which is what I’m looking for.

    What am I doing wrong!

    Any help appreciated :)
    Regards

    • The dataset must be a pushpin dataset. It has recently come to my attention that the “multiple symbol” dataset type does not support the hide/show option. Yes I know they look like pushpin datasets to you and me, but they are treated slightly differently internally.
