Moving between Views

In MapPoint it is possible to move back to a previous map view, and to move forward to return to the original view. This is very useful if you are looking at a number of locations or zoom levels. Being able to quickly return to an earlier view saves a lot of time as you no longer have to repeat the search for the location and find a suitable zoom level. As an example, we have a customer who uses this function a lot to produce acetate overlays which are perfectly aligned.

In MapPoint 2002, 2004, and 2006, this is performed using the Forward and Backward arrow buttons on the left side of the Advanced toolbar:

The left arrow button moves the map view back to the previous view. The right arrow button moves the map view forward to the next view.

In order to provide more space for the larger toolbar buttons, these buttons were removed in MapPoint 2009.  Many users missed this functionality, so we wrote the free Back and Forward Utility to add these functions to the Tools menu.

The Back and Forward functions were re-introduced in MapPoint 2010, and can be found on the View menu:
