It is easy to move around the MapPoint map by using the mouse. In MapPoint 2009 (and later), pan (move) the map by ‘grabbing’ it with the left mouse button and then using the mouse to drag the map to the desired position.
You can also move and zoom to a specific area by using the right mouse button. Click the right button, and drag the mouse to create a selection area. Release the button, and you will see the mouse cursor changes to a small magnifying glass. Zoom to the rectangle by clicking inside the rectangle with the left mouse button.
You can zoom in and out without moving the map by using your mouse’s scroll wheel (if you have one) or the + and - keys.
Another option is to right click on the map, being careful not to click on a place. This will display a popup menu with options to zoom in or out:

Alternatively, you can use the zoom scroller on the Advanced Toolbar:
The Zoom Scroller in MapPoint 2009 and 2010
Move the scroller to the left to zoom out, and to the right to zoom in.
The scroller looks different in MapPoint 2002, 2004, and 2006:
The Zoom Scroller and Zoom/Pan Buttons in MapPoint 2006
Although it has a different style, the zoom scroller works in an identical manner.
The two buttons on the right switch between zoom/pan modes. Instead of having different zoom/pan functions on the left and right mouse buttons, MapPoint 2002-6 only used the left mouse button, and the type of zoom/pan operation is governed by these toolbar buttons. The left button (selected in the above image) enables the zoom-to-rectangle function (on the right mouse button in MapPoint 2009 onwards). Press the right toolbar button to select the pan mode. When in this mode, use the left mouse button to drag (pan) the map, and the scroll wheel to zoom in or out.
It can be difficult to pan the map large distances. Although it is possible to zoom out, pan, and then zoom in, it is a lot easier to use the left mouse button to drag the view rectangle on the Overview Map.
As well as zooming and panning with the mouse, it is possible to zoom to specific places.
